A Good Citizen

Paying taxes and working and voluntary work is the most important traits of the ideal citizen. Working and paying taxes is Vital for a sosatie to grow. We are working as doctors, lawyers, butcher’s, wishing ladies, and so on. Form this jobs capital is created and taxes are paid. That marks the lives of the people in society easier.  In a welfare state, the taxes are high but the public services are also higher. Democrats are often welfare states because the people are In charge. It is not like a dictatorship.

Voluntary work is important, society can mobilise people to do work. Like the problem with global warming. Mankind is faced with the horrors of global warming and we know that the future will bring storms, hurricane’s, flood’s, droughts and other natural disasters. This is way voluntary work will be more important. We need to help each other and do more voluntary work.

Standing up for what you believe is right:

Edward Snowden was born in Elisabeth city, North Carolina. He was the whistleblower, that told the world that the American National security Agency (NSA), was spying on the seviliens across the world, including its own citizens. He now lives in exile in Russia. If he returns to the United States he will be trialled for treason. his whistleblowing made the world aware of how much spying the Americans actually did.

America is quite divided on whether or not Snowden was a good citizen. Some argue that he was doing something right and that the American government misused their trust and invaded their people’s privacy. Others will argue that the government were protecting its people and that Snowden was a traitor.

In Marlkana, South Africa, Platinum miners workers strike after many got injured, and some killed. The strike ended after 5 months and the result was that the miners earned extra R1000(55 English pounds) per month. South Africa is home to about 80% of the worlds platinum reserves. The miners had a strike because of low pay and harsh conditions. The strike caused the platinum industry 1.2million ounces, worth about 2.25 billion dollars.

The miners are good citizens because of the risk their lives every day for the platinum production. They don`t get paid much so the strike, was understandable. Luckily they got a bigger monthly payment.

The Black snake

The Dakota across pipeline known as black snake pipeline was a plan to build an oil pipeline across Dakota. The Indians demonstrated against the pipeline and received support from the world community. The pipelines crossed their native land, and if the pipeline would leak, it would destroy their supply of fresh water.

The native people are good citizents, but the government that is supposed to protect them and their interest. Betrayed their people and defined their rights.

Before the flood

We saw before the flood in class today, a documentary depicting climate change. The documentary was fantastic, not surprisingly since Leonardo DiCaprio created the film. I had seen the documentary before and thought that I remembered what the documentary addressed. However, when I saw it again, I must admit that I was moved. And got the feeling that I wanted to start in an environmental organisation. And I have asked my parents if we can eat fish 4 dinners a week. I learned more specifically what is wrong with raising cattle, and why global warming is extremely dangerous for Norway. Because of global warming the north pole and the Greenland ice is melting and the cold water that they release into the golf stream Northern Europa will become very cold.

Something that surprised me was that the UN chose the Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio to be their messenger of peace. I thought about it and concluded that it was a Brilliant move by the UN. It is a great way to inform the people of the world and to gather attention around the global warming topic.

The Future Of Robots

My class and I saw the film “Spare Parts”. The film was centred around Mexican immigrants «Dreamers» in the U.S. They are paperless and struggle whit that every day. they never know when the police come knocking on their door. As a result, the boys are refused services and one wants to join the army. He is refused because of his paper problems. They compete in at Engineering contest and win first place against college when they are high school themselves.

I was surprised that the Carl Hayden students won against MIT students, I would expect that they would get second place or something. Not the first place. Way the main characters won the comparison was never clear, however, I think that they won because of the budget. They built the robot for little under 800 dollars, and the students at MIT built there for 18 000. They improved and had to compensate every time they were buying something. That was because they had a very low budget. The most emotional scene was when one of the “Dreamers” father came and saw his son at the rewords.

What this story tells us is that robots do not have to be expensive. Robots should be cheaper because if they become cheaper we can youse them in all fields. Transport, industry, education, etc.

My reading «ABOUT A BOY»

Character development.

“Marcus came out of his room scowling. “I’m bored. Can I go and get a video?” Will couldn’t  resist it: he had a theory he wanted to test out. “Hey, Fiona. Why don’t you get your sheet music out, and we can murder ‘Both Sides Now’? “Would you like to?” “Yeah. Sure.” But he was watching Marcus, whose expression was that of a boy who had been asked to dance naked before a mixed audience of supermodels and cousins. “Please , Mum. Don’t.” “Don’t be silly. You love singing. You love Joni Mitchell.” “I don’t. Not anymore. I bloody hate Joni Mitchell.” Will knew then, beyond any shadow of of doubt, that Marcus would be OK.”

This is the last part of the book and it shows the development om Marcus. At the start of the book Marcus acts like a sissy and does not stop being a sissy until he hangs whit Elle and when Elle starts drinking on the train.

“His mum was sad, he knew that-she cried a lot now, more than she did before they moved to London, …”

The book is set in London, Marcus and his mum lived in Cambridge.

“That was his mother. When she wasn’t crying over the breakfast cereal, she was laughing about killing herself.”

The theme of the book is about suicide, depression, love problems and bullying. The quote is very deep and describes the whole book.

“»What’s that floating next to it?» Will asked. «Is that the bread you threw at it?»

Marcus nodded unhappily.

«That’s not a sandwich, that’s a bloody french loaf. No wonder it keeled over. That would’ve killed me.””

This quote sets the stage for the rest of the book. After this quote, Marcus`s world falls tumbling down.

  1. Where is the book sett?
  2. Who are the main characters?
  3. What happens in the book?
  4. What is the turning point?
  5. What is the theme?
  6. Who would you recommend the book to?

The Pomodoro technique

The Pomodoro technique is according to Barbara Oakley one of the best studying technique. The technique says that you have to work intensely in 25 min without destruction’s, followed by a rewording. The reword does not have to be a treat, it could be anything from a walk to a Youtube video.

Barbara Oakley does also have a technique if you have “hit a learning wall”. She says that you have to stop working. That will turn on a part of your brain that is not active when we are concentrating. According to miss Oakley, the brain will if you are working on a math question that you do not understand. Work on the problem while you are resting, and when you come back it will be easier.

The Hurricane Secret

A hurricane hit Puerto Rico last yare. The government of Puerto Rico claimed that the death toll was at 64 people, but in reality, the hurricane took the lives of almost 3 000 people. The government lied about the death of almost 3 000 of its own people.

The last death numbers from Hurricane Florence are 42 according to CBS News. It wouldn’t surprise me if the death toll is a lot Higher. It is frightening that the government is able to manipulate the numbers because we should be able to trust our government and our governments should be trusted.

How to win an argument

To win an argument is not easy, that being said it is not impossible.

If we are discussing how to win arguments we have to find out what makes a person change his or her mind. The three points that are important to know are the beliefs, ideas and values of the person you are debating. A study in 2017 said that a group of liberals were more likely to support increased military funding if you argued for the equality and the job opportunity it makes for people that has fewer options in life. this worked because liberals value equality over loyalty. If the study had conservatives instead of liberals they would have to use loyalty instead of equality when discussing increased military spending.
